Viva Photonics

Viva Phototonics

As an extension of our substantial commitment to local Australian research and development, Cider House Tech is proud to announce its partnership with Viva Photonics. Photonics, the combination of optics and electronics to manipulate light for various technologies is one of the fastest growing industries in the world.

Viva Photonics has developed interactive Educational Kits, for use by students at all levels of Tertiary and Secondary study and in the training of technical personnel. Cider House Tech and Viva Photonics are developing an expanding range of hardware kits complimented by coordinated curriculum materials developed in conjunction with leading Victorian Universities.

Cider House Tech's first hand experience of curriculum and resource development provides the link between Viva Photonics technological developments and the needs of educators, raising students awareness of photonics, its importance and potential.

Master Photonics Kit

Master Kit

Developed by one of the industry leaders in industrial photonics, this kit includes practical activities to cover all aspects of photonics covered in Core and Detailed Studies linked to the study design and leading texts. Explore single concepts or complete photonics systems.

The Master Photonics Kit allows for all suggested experiments to be performed with minimal need for non-standard classroom equipment. The Kit has been structured into four sub kits which are designed for use for years 9 to 12.

The Master Photonics Kit is supplied with a comprehensive teacher’s guide that directly relates to the requirements of the Victorian Curriculum of suggested kit activities and experiments. This kit is also integrated with the Heinemann and Jacaranda range of text books.

The Master Photonics Kit includes the four individual kits listed below at a discounted price as well as teacher and lab notes plus a heavy duty storage container.

Buy additional kits for class-based activities by either purchasing more Master Kits or individual kits for exploring particular concepts. The Master Photonics Kit can be used from middle years to the more advanced learning at VCE level.

The sub- kits can be purchased separately based on class size and preferred lesson delivery method. Based on varying demonstration and delivery methods the master kit can be utilised by classes of up to 20 students.

Wave Division kit

Viva Photonic’s Wave Division Multiplexing Kit enables educators to introduce key aspects of communication by light to secondary students in science and technology from Years 7 - 12. Developed in conjunction with leading industry sources and the Victorian Photonics Network. Click Here for more information.

Adventures in Fibre Optics (VI-1000)

Simple introductory activities with detailed activities for Year 12 and below. Suitable for introducing concepts from Year 9.

Fibre Optics Lab Kit (VI-2000)

Fibre Optics Kit

Phototransistors, photodiodes, fibres and LEDs for investigating fibre optic transmission (requires ‘bread board’ circuit board or similar).

All Optical Transmission Kit (VI-3000)

All Optical Transmission Kit

Transmitter and receiver for investigating free space transmission optical transmission or use the supplied fibre adaptor to investigate and demonstrate transmission through fibres.

For detailed informaton about the All Optical Tranmission Kit, click here.

Fibre Optics Phototonics Educational Kit

Hands on learning about fiber optics in telecommunication networks and other photonics based applications such as sensing. For more information click here.

Light Transmission Kit (VI-4000)

Light Transmission

Laser Pointer and Fibre Optic Rod for investigating/demonstrating internal reflection, transmission and more.

Lucite Bars

Demonstrate the basics of light transmission with two specially formulated Lucite bars - one curved and one straight. Light beams can be seen exhibiting total internal reflection down the straight bar as well as around the bend in the curved bar.

The two bars clearly and simply demonstrate how light is contained in an optical fiber by total internal reflection.

** A laser source is required to create light beams.

Straight Lucite Bar

  • Part Number: VI-1004
  • Total length: 235 mm
  • Thickness: 20 mm x 10 mm

Straight Lucite Bar

Curved Lucite Bar

  • Part Number: VI-1005
  • Total length: 235 mm
  • Thickness: 20 mm x 10 mm

Laser Pointer (Red)

*Important Restrictions Apply*

Under recent federal government legislation laser pointers have been classified as prohibited weapons. The act specifically targets the hand held laser pointers that have recently featured in the media as being directed at aircraft.

The specific description is as follows: Sample "Hand-held battery-operated articles that are designed or adapted to emit a laser beam with an accessible emission limit of greater than 1 mW." For more information on these restrictions please contact us.

This Laser Diode Pointer is an inexpensive, easy-to-use light beam for a multitude of demonstrations and experiments in optics.

Specifications:

  • Source: Laser Diode
  • Power: 5 mW max. (class IIIa)
  • Wavelength: 645 nm (red)
  • Beam Diameter: approx. 8 mm at 5 meters
  • Beam Visibility: up to 50 m
  • Battery: Alkaline AAA (2 included)
  • Battery Life: Approx. 1-1/2 hours continuous
